Jesse Tyler Ferguson met his future husband at the gym during the early days of the sitcom Modern Family. They were both in the locker room, and the actor was about to leave when he saw Justin Mikita, then an aspiring lawyer, who stopped to chat with him about his groundbreaking character Mitch on the show. Ferguson was immediately taken aback by how handsome he was. They stayed in touch as they messaged each other on Twitter right after their encounter.

In late 2010, they began dating, their careers and lives became intertwined. Mikita worked for the American Foundation for Equal Rights and enlisted the actor’s help to further his cause. In 2012, the two launched the nonprofit Tie the Knot, and they officially tied the knot in New York the following year. They recently welcomed their first child together, Beckett Mercer.
